Roos, David; Rungassamy, Tevamie; Huet, Jerome.
A diagnosis of recreational fisheries is carried out each year on the reef flat area of the Hermitage / La Saline managed by the Natural Marine Reserve of Reunion. The evolution of beach seine, fishing-rod and stick fishing activities, in terms of fishing effort and catch was analyzed. The status of exploited stocks differs according to the fishing technique. In 2018, the annual trend of catch per unit of effort indices showed 1°) an increase in the abundances of goatfish fished with beach seine, 2°) a relative stability with the fishing-rod practice and 3°) a constant decrease in octopus yields for stick fishermen. The honeycomb groupers size structure, targeted by fishing-rod fishermen, has improved. Octopus showed a decrease of larger specimens. Thus,...

Comparison between the opercular bones, the scales and the otoliths to investigate the growth of the brilliant pomfret (Eumegistus illustris) off the coast of Reunion Island (SW Indian Ocean) ArchiMer
Mahe, Kelig; Rabhi, Khalef; Bellamy, Elise; Elleboode, Romain; Aumond, Yoann; Huet, Jerome; Roos, David.
The brilliant pomfret (Eumegistus illustris) occurs in the western part of the Indian Ocean and the western and central Pacific Ocean. To date, the biology of E. illustris has never been documented. The aim of the present study was to investigate age and growth of E. illustris along the coasts of Reunion Island, based on calcified structures analysis. One hundred thirty five individuals were sampled in the landings of the French local artisanal fisheries from March 2014 to March 2015. The relationships between two types of body length (Total and Standard lengths, cm) and Total weight (g) were significant (P<0.05). Total length-weight relationship was described by the following parameters: a=0.012 and b=3.015 without significant effect of sexual...

Identification of skipjack tuna juveniles based on DNA control region sequences and potential spawning area around reunion island ArchiMer
Nikolic, Natacha; Jerome, Marc; Fonteneau, Alain; Evano, Hugues; Verrez-bagnis, Veronique.
In this study, we confirmed that DNA control region can be used to identify potential spawning area from pelagic juveniles species. We used the mitochondrial DNA control region to identify tuna juveniles predated by common dolphinfish and sampled in surface waters around Reunion Island. These were skipjack juveniles at an early stage (small length and young age). The biological results confirmed the species identification based on DNA analysis. Catch data by longline reveal a higher number of skipjack from October to December around Reunion Island corresponding to the period of our skipjack juvenile sampling

Roos, David; Aumond, Yoann; Huet, Jerome; Bruchon, Franck.
